The manufacturing sub-sector includes companies in repetitive manufacturing including
those making farm machines, mobile material handling machinery, air and water heating
systems, valves, musical instruments, doors, and corrugated pipe. It makes up 14% of the
industry revenue and 13% of the wages.
The electrical and automotive motor rebuilding sub-sector makes up 9% of the industry
revenue and 11% of the wages.
The sheetmetal industry manufacturers custom heating and ventilation system for residential,
commercial and industrial use, metal signs and heat recovery units. The sub-sector makes
up 10% of the revenue and 7% of the wages.
Custom ferrous and non-ferrous casting and heat treating is the smallest sub-sector making
up less than 1% of the metal industry revenue and wages. Although it is the smallest percentage
of the industry, it is an important sub-sector as it is an integral part of a complete metal
working sector.
